As minhas manias...

Posted by Lancaerie on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 in
Sim meus senhores o virus ja aki chegou...

1. Desarrumada :

4. Manter a mão sempre a tocar no telele:

Sim, tenho um bocado a paranóia que me vão roubar o telemovel e portanto ando sempre com ele onde o possa sentir...
O meu telemovel adora-me... ;)

5. Planear tudo:

Where is my mind today?

Posted by Lancaerie on Thursday, November 16, 2006 in
"Where is My Mind"
Ooooooh - stop

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

I was swimmin' in the Carribean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks

Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Tryin' to talk to me to me to me

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin' ?

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse If there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Ooooh
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Ooooh
Try this trick and spin it, yeah

Ooooh oooh

Poison...

Posted by Lancaerie on Monday, November 13, 2006 in
Poison - Alice Cooper

Your cruel device
Your blood like ice

One look could kill

My pain, your thrill
I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop

I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin'thru my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught

Your skin, so wet

Black lace on sweat

I hear you calling and it's needles and pins (And pins)
I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name

Don't want to touch you but you're under my skin (Deep in)
I want to kiss you but your lips are venomous poison
You're poison runnin'thru my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Poison

One look could kill

My pain, your thrill

I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)
I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop

I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)
I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison

You're poison runnin'thru my veins
You're poison, I don't want to break these chains

Poison
I want to love you, but I better not touch (Don't touch)

I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop

I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much)

I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison, yeah

I don't want to break these chains

Poison, oh no

Runnin'deep inside my veins,
Burnin'deep inside my veins

It's poison
I don't want to break these chains

You Know You're Portuguese When...

Posted by Lancaerie on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 in

You Know You're Portuguese When....

Your mother or grandmother has Maria in her name.

You have a rooster napkin holder.

Your father or grandfather is called Manuel, Jose, Antonio, or Joao.

You have crocheted doilies on your kitchen counters, dining room, living room, bedroom--on all your tables.

You decorate your walls with plates.

Your house is a mini church with just as may statues of saints and Jesus as your church itself.

You're 25 and still living with your parents. (Extra points if you're married and living with your spouse in your parent's house)

You warn other drivers of police on the highway by flashing your lights, even though one of the drivers might have just robbed a bank.

You baptize your child and send him to catechism even though you might never go to church except for weddings and funerals.

You think all university graduates should be called "Doutor" and like to be called so if you are one of the chosen few who have managed to finish college.

You park on the sidewalk when necessary, even asking the person standing there to please move away.

You have a mobile phone and spend a small fortune on it, but think twice about going to the dentist.

You have a mother or grandmother who wears black.

You spend your holidays in Spain instead of in Portugal because it is cheaper.

If you are a woman, you have been to see a "curandeiro" (healer) or have had your fortune told.

You insist you wouldn't be caught dead buying Spanish olive oil even though most of the olive oil consumed in Portugal comes from Spain.

You laugh at jokes about the Alentejanos but get angry to know that the same jokes are told in Brazil about the Portuguese.

You think that you can catch a cold with a draft or by sitting in the spring sun. Cold drinks are also thought to bring on the dreadful "gripe". And don't let anyone have a shower after eating as something terrible could happen to them.

You get a letter from your doctor saying you can't work because of an "unspecified, ongoing medical condition" and then go on a two-week holiday.

Your child's teacher misses two weeks (because of a letter from his or her doctor) and you don't complain because you also will use the same doctor when you have to miss two weeks from your work.

If you are from Porto you don't like people from Lisbon and call them Moors. The reverse is also true but they don't call you a nice word like "Moor".

You think Brazilians speak incorrect Portuguese and will not read a book written in Brazilian Portuguese.

The last major military victory you can remember your country having was the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.

You say that the Portuguese, unlike the Spanish, are good at learning foreign languages.

Your parents own like 9 houses in Portugal but complain about the lack of money in the States.

Going to Portugal involves buying gifts for all 500 members of your family

You go crazy for the World Cup

You refer to Portugal as "O Continent"

You've walked in "as paradas" longer than you can remember

You have grape vines in your backyard

You earned over $10,000 for your first communion.

To hell with the Turkey and Roast Beef! X-mas dinner was bacalhau au braz, baby!

A barbeque does not consist of burgers on the grill... Hello! Can you say sardinhas?

You've had your license for a month, but your $20,000 car has been "hooked up" for a year. I'm talking rims, tints, a system...

A wooden spoon equals discipline, or if you ever had to duck so you wouldn't get hit with flying shoes.

Your parents anticipate that you'll marry your first long-term boyfriend/girlfriend.

When you hear the word "Sagres" you think Beer, not historical marine school.

Nothing beats a buttered papo-seco.

Your 15 year old brother is allowed to have two girls sleep over, but your 19 year old sister can't go out past 7pm.

You think that 2am is too early to go to bed and that 11am is to early to get out of bed.

Your grandmother tells you look sick because you are too thin.

Your parents make you eat 3 servings of dinner at each sitting otherwise they think you don't like the cooking.

You're proud to be Portuguese - and you pass these jokes on to all your Portuguese friends!

Metallica - Part 5 of 5 - The Unforgiven

Posted by Lancaerie on Friday, July 21, 2006 in ,

One of the best songs by Metallica!

The Unforgiven

New blood joins this earth
And quikly he's subdued
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules

With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub the unforgiven

You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub the unforgiven

Metallica - Part 4 of 5 - No Leaf Clover

Posted by Lancaerie on Friday, July 21, 2006 in ,
Maestro Edit...

Best concert ever, seen through this very particular perspective...
Michael Kamen rules!

No Leaf Clover

And it feels right this time
On this crash course with the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
New day fills his head with wonder, boy....

Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
Good day to be alive Sir
Good day to be alive, he said.....

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just the freight train coming your way

Don't it feel right like this
All the pieces fall to his wish
Sucker for that quick reward boy
Sucker for that quick reward they said.....

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just the freight train coming your way......
It's coming your way
It's coming your way......
Here comes

Yeah, Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Is just a freight train coming your way.... Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah...
Then it comes to be, Yeah

Metallica - Part 2 of 5 - Wherever I May Roam

Posted by Lancaerie on Friday, July 21, 2006 in ,

Wherever I May Roam

...and the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
So in her I do confide
And she keeps me satisfied
Gives me all I need

...and with dust in throat I crave
Only knowledge will I save
To the game you stay a slave
Rover wanderer
Nomad vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

...and the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone
I ask no one

...and my ties are severed clean
The less I have the more I gain
Off the beaten path I reign
Rover wanderer
Nomad vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll never mind anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

But i'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind
And I'll take my find anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

Carved upon my stone
My body lie, but still I roam
Wherever I may roam...

Metallica - Part 1 of 5 - Until it Sleeps

Posted by Lancaerie on Friday, July 21, 2006 in ,

Previously on the "About me" section of hi5...
Cute, huh?

Until it Sleeps...

Where do I take this pain of mine
I run, but it stays right by my side

So tear me open, pour me out
There's things inside that scream and shout
And the pain still hates me
So hold me, until it sleeps

Just like the curse, just like the stray
You feed it once, and now it stays

So tear me open, but beware
There's things inside without a care
And the dirt still stains me
So wash me, until I'm clean

*It grips you, so hold me
It stains you, so hold me
It hates you, so hold me
It holds you, so hold me

Until it sleeps**

So tell me why you've choosen me
Don't want your grip, don't want your greed

I'll tear me open, make you gone
No more can you hurt anyone
And the fear still shakes me
So hold me, until it sleeps

[*--** Repeat]

I don't want it

So tear me open, but beware
The things inside without a care
And the dirt still stains me
So wash me, 'till I'm clean...

I'll tear me open, make you gone
No longer will you hurt anyone
And the fear still shapes me
So hold me, until it sleeps...

Until it sleeps...

Rubisco, sua maluka!

Posted by Lancaerie on Sunday, January 29, 2006 in ,
I Love Rubisco

Lets face it, as a plant scientist and a biologist I cant help but love Rubisco. What is Rubisco you may ask? Only the most common protein on the face of the planet. It rules, it rocks, but mostly it catalyses reactions. Its right there in the first step of the infamous Calvin Cycle. So without further introduction I give you:

The Top Ten Reasons To Love Rubisco!

10) Its name sounds really cool! Say it R-U-B-I-S-C-O
9)Well, duh, it is the most plentiful protein in the world!
8) Space filling models look kind of like Hortas - [Star Trek (We are almost as geeky as engineers)] (If you dont know what a Hortas is, go here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horta_(Star_Trek) )
7)If plants love it, why shouldnt you?
6)It can be an oxygenase or a corboxylase - Ask a Biochemist (or dont... your choice. Do you wanna live or die of boredom?)
5)Rubisco won't dump you for another scientist (I wonder...)
4) Rubisco is better than cold beer - Only if you are a plant.
3) It doesnt leave you with that bloated feeling.
2) Every time you see someone cooking vegetables, you could say: "Oh my God! You killed Rubisco!" (You bastards!)

1) Because it is so much easier than saying Ribulose-1,5-Bus Phosphate Carboxylase!

(For more about Rubisco: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RUBISCO )

E para aqueles que se estao a perguntar onde raio eu descobri isto, bem a resposta e simples. Uma das profs da fcul axou k era giro para mostrar na aula...
E pronto... axo que so isto explica bem pk e k os biologos sao doidos...
